The Program Research Expert Group is an association of colleagues from various university departments. It was founded in 2010 on the initiative of Klaus Heuer (DIE Program Archive, until 2017) and Bernd Käpplinger (Justus Liebig University Gießen). Program research is the genuine research method of adult education. It focuses on the specific object of investigation, the “program”, as a multidimensional, time-historical sediment of pedagogical action in the plural field of adult and continuing education.
The tasks of program research are
- to provide in-depth insights for the planning and analysis of programs in continuing education organizations,
- to make research resources and research activities in the field of program research visible,
- to convey the necessary methodological knowledge,
- to contribute to the consolidation of research, also in terms of networking,
- to promote the networking of existing program archives.
The target groups for the information provided here are interested academics, young researchers in the field, representatives of adult education associations and program planners in continuing education organizations. On this site you will find, among other things, an extensive bibliography on program research and its results, information on program archives as well as research materials and handouts on methodology.
